I just wanted to share with you a fun Christmas gift I made for James.
I decided to make these after reading this post from One Hook Wonder. I did something similar when we studied the letter U, but these new ones are much nicer and include more than just James' uncles. In fact, there are 28 family members in this deck and that still does not include all of our immediate family!
I made duplicates of each person so he can use these as a memory game or a matching activity. They'll also be great for reading practice and for James to learn our family tree. And since James rarely sees these folks, I can see us using these to refresh his memory the next time we travel to see them.
~Thank you for your comments!~
Wonderful idea! We have family out of town so this would be great to help Ella associate a name with a face. PS- Love the pic of the cat in the bowl! We have a cat and that made me laugh! Kerri
ReplyDeletecute! I think I'll try this one out too :) thanks a bunch
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteI should make some of these next summer before my brother's wedding, as there will be loads of relatives that my boys do not see regularly there and it will help them to put a name to a face. Thanks for sharing...and for giving me a project to get cracking on for the next semester.
Happy holidays to you and yours:)

ReplyDeleteBig Hugs!!
Very good blog.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas.
These are great, Mari-Ann! They would especially help children feel comfortable knowing the names of relatives who are rarely seen. I just added a link to your post at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2010/12/16/how-to-help-your-child-feel-comfortable-greeting-relatives/
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog early this morning and just wanted to tell you that you are doing such a great job. You really are an inspiration, and I can't wait to have time to read some in the archives.
ReplyDeleteThese are a great idea for James! And can I just say how beautiful you and your family (cat included!) are!!! You don't look a day over twenty, Mari-Ann!
ReplyDeleteoo how fun!!! I am sure James will love them!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a terrific idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple idea, love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I've been thinking of doing something similar for Nicholas, but I'm not quite sure where to start! On my Mum's side alone there are 6 aunts and uncles, 13 grandchildren and now three of the next generation...
ReplyDeleteGreat Idea! I have made these for all of the children in my class, but the thought never occurred to me to do family for my own children. Thanks for posting!

Brilliant as usual!
ReplyDeleteI do this for the kids in my classroom to get to know each other at the beginning of the year. It also teaches them to recognize and even spell each others names.
