Felt Solar System

I made these after my sweet friend, Ann, sent this link to me. She thought my space loving boy would love a set and she was right!

These were quick and easy to stitch up and were done all by hand (I point that out so that those of you without a sewing machine know you can do it, too!). I also needle-felted some of the details.

James and I had fun designing these together. I pulled out all my felt and scraps and we selected which colors would best represent each planet, using our flashcards as a guide. We talked about why certain planets appear to have spots, strips, and rings.

James really enjoyed playing with these and is especially fond of the sun. He tells anyone with ears that the sun is "4.7 biiiiiillllion years old!"

We actually just receive some books I had ordered for the kids, and my son picked out a set of books about the entire solar system. I think he would love these! Though I don't have anything to needle felt details like the earth, my recent love of creating things out of felt just might be a great timing, as I have a big stash of it on hand :) Thanks again for all your great ideas!

They are awesome! I can't wait for my little boy to be interested in space, I'm sure he'd love those planets. He throws himself into learning about things so thoroughly, at the moment it is the human body!

I love this felt set! I might make the flat version for Anna, but I am afraid that I don't have quite as many colors. The picture of James with his son is so adorable.

These are fantastic! I think my favorite is the Earth one as well - as another person already noted, the clouds are too cool. :-)

Nice job on the reusable bags too! I ordered some on a whim from Vitamin Shoppe, called LunchSkins, just to get myself over the free shipping threshold. But now I'm addicted to them. Yay!

I just made these and it so much fun (for me too). This is the best blog ever. You are my inspiration. You should post it into a book.

Hey, thanks also for posting your daily schedule. I have always wondered.
