James' birthday is coming up and he's requested a pirate themed party (I'll be sure to share those details next week), so I thought I'd make a pirate sensory tub for him, too. Arrrr and what a lot of fun it's been, maties!!
Here's what's inside:
:: Black beans
:: Mardi Gras necklaces
:: Colored flat marbles
:: Pirate figurines
:: Silver shovel
:: A velvet bag of various gem stones
:: Small (fake) crystal beads
:: A treasure box
:: Plastic coins and gems
:: A few of my old rings
:: Skull patch
And buried under the beans is a skeleton (from our Halloween tub), a few real gold Bermuda dollar coins, and an "X".
I also created a treasure map out of a brown paper bag (I had WAY too much fun making this, btw). James will need to hunt and find the treasures. :)

WOW, great idea :-)
AWESOME! My son is sooooo into pirates right now, I'm going to have to start collecting things for this :) Thanks so much for your awesome blog!!!
I came here to search for something else and this popped up!!!! Krash is going to DIE! He loves pirates and we are thinking of doing his 5th bday pirates too {it's May 10}. I can't wait to see your ideas first!!!
How fun! I love pirate themes and hopefully my kids will too. Eventually (they're 22 months and haven't shown any interest yet). I hope James enjoys his pirate party and sensory tub!
Great! I love the map so much!
oh wow I think even my big kids would love this!!!
Let me know if you want sugestions for the birthday party - that was the theme we used for my oldest's 5th birthday and it stands out as one of my all-time favourites!
What a wonderful theme for the birthday boy. I especially love the treasure map and the detail of burnt edging of the paper. I can just imagine how his party will be like. Love it!
I LOVE this sensory bin! It's my favorite one I've seen. It's so funny, because we had a treasure hunt today. Great minds think alike! Love it!
once again you rock!!!!
Oooh, I can just imagine lots of little pirates loving this!
Really awesome idea!
Love this idea! Thanks (as always) for sharing!)
That is awesome! I love it! Thanks for including a list of items included.
Such a cute idea! My little preschooler has insisted I call her "Jake" (a pirate on a Disney show) for the past three weeks. I'm Captain Hook, and my husband is Mr. Smee. It's pretty entertaining. I think she would LOVE this.
Wow! I've no words! You rock!!!
Wow! The kids would have so much fun with this! They are always creating their own treasure maps. Thanks Mari-Ann!

Great post! I definitely have to try this out. I'm just learning more about sensory tubs and love all your examples. I'm really interested in homeschooling but not ready to make the plunge so I'm looking for ways to implement cool activities like this.
I added this page to my "Best Homeschool Resources" post. Check it out and feel free to add more cool links.
Thanks!
What a beautiful, elaborate sensory tub.
