When Blogging Becomes a Burden

Last week I didn't blog much and several of you (very sweetly) wrote to me asking if everything was OK.

Truth is, I took a mini blog break because I'm finding blogging to be a bit more time consuming than it used to be and, I daresay, it's becoming a bit like work. I promised myself that if ever I felt that way about blogging, I'd stop writing and delete my blog.

Well, I don't know if I'm ready for that. Maybe. But at the very least I'm going to write a lot less often.

For the moment I'll be stepping away from blogging and commenting altogether... not sure for how long. I just really need to refocus my energies and re-adjust my priorities.

To those concerned bloggy friends - no worries, all is well. :)

I completely understand! I told my husband just the other day that sometimes blogging feels a bit like a chore. (I only made 3 posts in January!) I tend to take breaks when I feel like that and then I miss blogging and start up again. I think a lot of people are like that actually.

Mari-Ann,
I admire you! WAY TO GO! You are doing the right thing! (although you will be missed)
I will enjoy your posts as they come no matter how much or how seldom! Being a mommy is the most important job and all your blogging friends should understand that and not ask you to change that for anything!
Blessings to you!

You will be missed, but you need to do what is best for you and your family.

Ah, I would much rather see you refreshed and enjoying blogging then trudging through the process:)

YOU and YOUR FAMILY comes first!
Same thing is hapenning to me. I absolutely love blogging. But don't have the time sometimes. I've been introducing MONTESSORI to my 8 yo and it is hard work. Re-focus and prioritize. MISS YOU MY FRIEND!

I, who only had the chance to post something for February just today, understand you. I'm not a mom, but I do understand everyday "urgencies".

It must be going around! I laid in bed last night and planned out a "blogging break" post in my head to put out later today. Enjoy your break and come back refreshed. :)

I feel the same way that you do- I look forward to your blogs whenever you have time to do them- you make some of the craftiest things! Most importantly enjoy your little one and your husband- that is the what is best for you! :)

oohh how I can understand! When it becomes a job/task and something you dont look forward to doing its lost the point (atleast for me). I hope you have a great break. I will miss you but I totally understand!

I can imagine you need a break, you do such a wonderful job with your posts. Please do not delete the blog though, I am using many of your ideas with my daughter and she loves it. I love to reference your older posts! Take care!

I understand! Doesn't is make you feel good to know people miss ya?? lol Enjoy your break and just be a mommy for now. I look forward to your return though!

I know exactly what you mean! I blog mostly so that I have a nice record of what I do in homeschool, but I'm getting way behind and finding it a chore to keep up with what I want to post. I think taking breaks helps, and also not feeling like I have to blog immediately about everything. Enjoy your break, and get refreshed. Take the time you need (though I will miss you). Blog when you can, but don't pressure yourself to keep up. (I'm really preaching at myself here...lol). However, I agree with Christine-please don't delete your blog! Your blog is one of my favorites. I'm constantly looking at your tot trays and activities, and I use a lot of your ideas.

Blessings!
Debbie

I understand too, and I'm glad you're doing okay. When blogging becomes "blah" sometimes it helps to take a break. I've taken some long breaks in the past, but short little breaks can be just the thing too. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed myself right now!

I completely understand. Take a break and although I'll miss your posts there are many things way more important than blogging. So take a break and enjoy it!

Regular blog posts, creating resources/activities and commenting on blogs can be very time consuming. I totally understand how you feel. When it becomes more like a chore and the joy is fading it is definitely time for a break. A breather can work wonders.

I will be here whenever you decide you are ready to return to the land of blogging.

I know what you mean about priorities. I've come up with a good way to stay on top of the blogging and make sure it's not something I have to spend hours on everyday: it is through creating my posts all at once and then have them scheduled throughout the week. So far, it's been really nice to be able to focus on what I am doing each day and not worrying about making sure I have time to blog about it that night! You can click on post options on the bottom left of each post to schedule when you want it to be posted. Anyways, if you decide to try that, I hope it helps. I may even do a post about this soon.

Also, just wanted to let you know that tomorrow I am posting about how we did the number recognition activity with cars. Thanks for the great idea!
Take care!

I totally understand. I haven't been blogging much lately either. But at least don't delete the blog! The ideas you already posted are fabulous and I plan on coming back to remind myself of them!

I'd like to echo everything that everyone else has mentioned.

I'd like to add that don't you DARE actually DELETE this work of art. Even if you don't write as often in the future it is a wonderful thing to look back on. (And ahem, I will be doing a lot of that next fall, as Kendal heads off to school and I'm home with Mason.)

I know exactly what you mean. I am quickly finding out that when I think I'll just be blogging for a few minutes it often takes hours! I keep telling myself that once things get up and running a bit more for my blog I'll cut back.....I'm in the process of figuring out how to manage it all, one way of which was the scheduled posts thing. But you are exactly right about the time issue. Best of luck figuring it all out. And if you ever have any good tips about it all, let me know!

By the way, I just gave you a few awards over on my blog.
Take care!

Look at all these comments, girl!! You're not alone. I'm going through something VERY similar (and am only online right now because sweet hubby is playing a new X-Box game! Ha!).

Thinking of you!

Noooooooo! I've been away for a week and was so looking forward to coming back and catching up on lots of your posts! I'm sad you're stepping away, but completely and totally understand and support you.
I know how much you have going on aside from blogging. Write when you can and you guarantee I'll be here waiting. :)
Lots of love,
Jen

I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog and gave you an award. No pressure to repost I understand how time consuming blogging can be.

No way! One thing to help with blogging blahs - smaller posts :)

Take your time, I completely understand. Blogging takes a lot more time than most people think!

But I do have to say, one good thing for me is that I still haven't gone through all your past ideas taht I want to try with my son! So at least now maybe I can catch up!!!

And pick your own schedule. I have backed off too and now only blog 2 times a week and comment to some, not all of my readers. People will understand.

You are always allowed to take a break, especially when it means you'll be concentrating on the more important things in life, but you ARE NOT allowed to delete it! :) I know this is an old post, but I'm really enjoying your blog and applying your amazing ideas to our own homeschool
